How Much Void Fill Do You Need per Package?

Estimate unused cubic inches, then choose paper, air pillows, or foam based on fragility—not volume alone.

Volume first

Subtract product volume from box interior volume. That unused space is the void you must stabilize.

Material second

Kraft paper suits many light goods. Air pillows fill space quickly. Foam or molded inserts suit fragile or high-value items.

Estimate volume with the void fill calculator, then cost it in packaging cost. A tighter carton from accurate measuring needs less fill.
